Sgraffito

“Sgraffito” is a technique which has been used in ceramics throughout cultures and centuries and was popularized during the Italian Renaissance. A layer of clay is carved or scratched away to reveal a contrasting color underneath. My work is made from porcelain, decorated with black slip, and carved and scratched to reveal bold, crisp designs.
